What is Coast FIRE?
Coast FIRE is a milestone within the FIRE movement. You've reached Coast FIRE when you have enough invested that — assuming it grows at your expected rate — it will hit your retirement goal without any additional contributions. You can then "coast" financially, working just enough to cover living expenses rather than aggressively saving.
How the math works
Coast FIRE Number = Retirement Target ÷ (1 + return)^years. Your retirement target is your annual expenses divided by 4% (the safe withdrawal rate). If you have that amount invested today, it compounds to your target by retirement — no more contributions needed.
